Somalia: Ethiopian Restlessness

Ethiopia said Tuesday that it was not prepared to continue propping up Somalia’s interim government “indefinitely” and urged leaders there to embrace a peace process to end 17 years of conflict. The interim government has been unable to stop a two-year insurgency by Islamic militias, despite the support of thousands of Ethiopian troops. “I would like to reiterate unequivocally that Ethiopian troops are not prepared to continue paying heavy responsibilities indefinitely,” Seyoum Mesfin, the foreign minister, said at a regional meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
