Saudi Arabia sanctions 2 senior Hezbollah members

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Saudi Arabia says it is sanctioning two senior members of Hezbollah, accusing them of leading terrorist operations in the Middle East.

The move announced Wednesday on the official Saudi Press Agency will freeze any assets of the two Lebanese men under Saudi jurisdiction and prohibits Saudis from dealing with them.

The kingdom identified one of the operatives as Khalil Yusif Harb, who it says commanded Hezbollah's central military unit and oversaw military operations throughout the region.

It alleged the other, Muhammad Qabalan, is a "terrorist cell leader" who helps supervise Hezbollah policy.

Hezbollah is a Shiite militant group backed by Saudi Arabia's main regional rival, Iran. Saudi Arabia officially branded it, the Muslim Brotherhood, al-Qaida and several other groups as terrorist organizations last year.
